Do you take Medicaid / State insurance?
Yes, we accept most all insurances both state Medicaid and Private Insurances. We also have affordable cash packages and can accept purchase orders from school districts. School districts will sometimes have us provide therapy for their student here at the clinic when they are not able to adequately meet their needs at school. We do not treat at the school, but are available for consultation and IEP participation ($149).
Can a student get services at ‘Ohana OT that did not qualify for Special Education?
Yes, in most cases. Often times we are able to establish medical necessity due to a functional concern or safety concern when they do not qualify at the school. The requirements are much different. We just need a referral /RX from their physician. We have a resource section on our website OhanaOT.com that helps to guide physicians on what types of diagnosis codes are commonly used and accepted by insurance companies for occupational therapy.
What kind of therapy do you provide at ‘Ohana OT?
We provide the highest quality occupational therapy services for children. We are able to serve children with all types of diagnosis and disabilities. In addition we are specialists with Sensory Processing Disorders. Our most common diagnosis that we serve are Autism and ADHD. Our clinic is designed specifically to address the needs of these children with ample space, specialized equipment and sessions that are typically 45 min.
What is the difference between school OT and medical OT?
The main difference is how the children qualify for services and the emphasis of treatment. In the school we are under the umbrella of Special Education and have to follow the state WACs for qualifying for services. In medical based OT children qualify for services based on functional deficits and a physician’s referral. We are able to serve many children that do not qualify for Special Education. We are also able to see children that are on IEPs as we will typically target different goals. In medical based OT we address the full scope of the child’s life including play skills, self care, sleep, social skills, gross and fine motor skills. We approach things from the bottom up by addressing the underlying physical deficit causing the deficit such as core strength, primitive reflexes, and sensory processing.
