Q & A:
What kind of class is ‘Ohana’s Little Movers? What will it look like?
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to have some special 1:1 time for 35-40 minutes with your toddler in a fun environment with other toddlers and parents. It is much different than the typical play group free play or gymnastics open gym in a large open environment. This is a parent inclusive, sensory friendly class for toddlers and their parent to promote gross, fine and sensory motor development through activities designed by developmental experts in a toddler friendly space. We will have three rooms that you can freely move between with your child at their pace. In each room there will be an Ohana OT staff member to assist you on how to keep your child safe. We will also give you tips and tricks to encourage your child to try new things. One room will have a toddler friendly obstacle course and balance activities. Another room will have our spandex hammocks, where your child can expend a lot of energy and still keep them in one place! We will also have a small ball pit. Our third room will have some sensory play (e.g. kinetic sand, play do, finger paint, bubbles) and fine motor toys to develop grasp and pinch strength needed to be successful with self care and preschool tasks. We will wrap up at the end with circle time.
When and where is the class?
Class begins on June 25th through July 30th
The class will be for 6 weeks on Mondays from 11:15-11:50 for 1-2 year olds. We are located at 1139 N Princeton Ave, Wenatchee , Wa. We are on the lower floor of the Sew Creative building which is next to Target (if you are facing Target we are on the right side).
What is the cost of the class?
$149 for a 6 week session
We do not offer refunds or make-ups for missed classes or make ups.
What do you mean by “sensory friendly”?
Many children are overwhelmed by various sensory stimulation. We find noise levels to be the most common trigger. Therefore, to make this a sensory friendly and not overwhelming experience for all we require that:
- Cell phones remain on silent
- No electronic entertainment / games (including in the lobby as they are a distraction to all)
- Adults need to have low to med voice levels (e.g. no loud cheering, coaxing, conversations, laughing) this will help keep this class sensory friendly and not overwhelming
You are a Pediatric Occupational Therapy clinic. Is this therapy?
No, this is not a therapy session. This is a class to help promote development through special activities. In therapy we have specific goals that our therapists work directly with you and your child to achieve that are developed after an evaluation. If you have concerns about your child’s development and you want some input as to how they are doing and if they might need therapy you can schedule a 15 min Discover Screening for just $10. Please inquire at the front desk and we will be happy to help you get started. We are here to help your family thrive.
Do I have to be with my child during the whole time or can I let them explore on their own?
Your full attention will need to be on your child the entire time. It will be your responsibility to keep them safe so being nearby will be important. How close you need to be will be up to you as you know your child best.
Are siblings allowed?
No siblings even if they are an infant (unless with another caregiver and they wait in lobby). Your toddler will need your full attention in this environment. If you have 2 toddlers you will need a second adult to be responsible for the second child’s safety.
Are we allowed to hang out and visit in the lobby after class?
We hope that some wonderful friendships from in this group. However, visiting after class will have to take place outside of ‘Ohana OT and not in our small lobby. There is a park across the street and places to eat nearby. We have a tight clinic schedule so class must start and end on time. We either have meetings or therapy sessions immediately after the development class.
Are we allowed to take photos and videos during the class?
Yes, there will be so many fun Kodak moments! We are fine with our staff in photos and videos, but you must respect the privacy of the other parents and toddlers (get their permission first). Feel free to post your photos and videos on our Ohana Pediatric Therapy facebook page.
Thank you and we look forward to playing with you!
